WHAT IS 60 METERS?

60 METERS is a projection mapping installation, pointing out the physical impacts of Global Warming. It is not only an immersive experience but also a channel to raise global awareness to Climate Crisis.

According to Global Footprint Network, Earth Overshoot Day shifted to 29th of July in year 2023. This means that humanity is currently using 1.75 times faster than the planet’s ecosystems can regenerate, as stated in the Journal of Petroleum Technology.

If carbon emissions continue to rise unchecked, the Arctic could be ice-free by the summer of 2040, which would result in a global sea level rise by more than 60 meters.

Although our perception of Climate Change seems far away, as of September 2023, we have approximately 5 years and 300 days to act to limit Global Warming to 1.5°C, to shift our priorities to change the future. As LAX-Collective, we’d like to use the potential of I Light Singapore to draw attention on this subject matter.

THE CONCEPT

The asymmetrical structure of ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands reaches upward into the skyline as high as 60 meters. Meaning, unless a global action plan is set and followed immediately, the building could be completely submerged underwater, in less than 17 years.

With this projection mapping installation, we’d like to draw attention to the scarcity of global actions in helping build a possible future.

THE VISUAL

It will be a 15 minute long event, recurring only 4 times during the festival; as it is not planned as a spectacle and rather a reminder for all of us to take action. During a single event, only a 15 minute video of rising sea level footage will be projected onto the walls of the ArtScience Museum.

Recurring projection times are planned to be in different dates (Details to be discussed with the festival organization).

The final visual will be a juxtaposition of Deniz Sak’s personal video collection, gathered from around the world; Finland, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Maldives, Morocco, Netherlands, Tunisia, Turkey and the United States, from the oceans, seas and underwater.
